Her Royal Highness's Annual Festive Musical Celebration Spotlights Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the concert.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Performance and Potential

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the former royal to widen access to musical tuition.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

This annual carol service will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
