It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
